You can count on Rick Steves to tell you what you really need to know when traveling in the City of Light—Paris.

With the self-guided tours in this book, you’ll explore the grand Champs-Elysées, the eye-popping Eiffel Tower, and the radiant cathedral of Notre-Dame. Learn how to save money and avoid the lines at the Louvre and Orsay Museums. Enjoy the ambience of Parisian neighborhoods, and take a day trip to the glittering palace of Versailles, or to the Champagne-soaked city of Reims. Then grab a café crème at a sidewalk café and listen to the hum of the city. You’ll see why Paris remains at the heart of global culture.

Rick’s candid, humorous advice will guide you to good-value hotels and restaurants in delightful neighborhoods. You’ll learn how to navigate the Paris Métro, and which sights are worth your time and money. More than just reviews and directions, a Rick Steves guidebook is a tour guide in your pocket.

The best guide book I have ever read2010-07-225 / 5
This is by far the best travel book I have ever read. It is incredibly easy to read and the suggestions are right on point. His suggestions of restuarants, shops, cafes, etc where excellent. His guided tours were very helpful and made the attractions much more interesting. If you are travelling to Paris, don't do so without this book.
Kindle for Droid, is null and void! Bad Conversion2010-07-022 / 5
I bought the actual paper copy of the book when it originally became available. I bought the Kindle version the other day after Kindle was released for Android. WOW, this is terrible. The Audio and Video that is included IS NOT! It says it is not supported on my device! The droid does everything but can't play audio through Kindle? The formating is atrocious. Photos occupy about 1/6 the screen, about postage stamp size...the rest of the this big screen is just blank. WTF? things like a section will say:
    attractions with
    ***

    Don't miss.

I might miss it because it's not where it should be!

Why all the wasted blank space? Why the teeny tiny photos? Why say with Audio and video then not include it? why charge $9.99 for something that is half-a$$ed? Is it Rick Steves productions fault or Kindle?

The content is great, it beats lugging another book around but Kindle for Droid, is null and void! Thsi applies to the Rick Steves Paris 2010 and Bavaria books.
    Don't leave home without Rick.2010-06-195 / 5
This was our second trip to Paris in two years. Had the 2009 edition with us last year and the 2010 this time. The practical information about transportation, the Charles de Gaulle airport and airline scheduling saved us untold anxiety and confusion, not to mention all the other tips for places to visit and how to get to them, and for the very handy Museum Pass, which we used to the max. Could go on and on...but, just buy it and see for yourselves!
    Lacking so much2010-06-182 / 5
Coverage of certain areas totally lacking and not as good as the Frommer book. This is the First
Rick Steves book that has truly disappointed. This is my third trip to Paris and could not find
good information here. Save your money. Passy area, 2 and 3 and most of 1st not adequately covered.
Good if you are just into Louvre and d'Orsay.
    4 Stars for Guide, 0 Stars for Kindle Version2010-06-184 / 5
I've traveled for years with Rick Steve's books and find them the most helpful out there. This is the first time I've used a Kindle version of his guidebooks. Do yourself a huge favor and get the paperback, not the Kindle version.

As others have pointed out, it is frustrating and/or impossible to find information in the Kindle version. Not only is there no index, but the Table of Contents is so "bare" as to be next to useless. The few internal links provided are to sidebars explaining something other than what you are probably looking for. Sure you can search for things, but your search must be so generalized that you'll get pages of results and a difficult time figuring out which one is applicable. Your only real option for finding information in the guide is to flip through page after page until you stumble across it -- a painfully slow process on the Kindle.

In a nutshell, until they vastly improve the indexing features, stick to the hard copy-- where it is easy to find a nearby park or cafe to use your Kindle for reading a good novel. I love my Kindle, but it just isn't designed for reference works.
