Music doesn't come more touching than this. With their debut single alone, the emotion-fortified "Shiver," Coldplay prove they can shift between elated and crushed in a breath, as singer Chris Martin pours out music's oldest chestnut (unconditional yet unrequited love) with the shakiest of voices and a backdrop of epic guitars. For 10 tracks on
Parachutes, he adds newfound meaning to the most tired and overused rock sentiments--love found, love lost, love unrequited--over acoustic guitars and emotionally fraught rock. And for once, all the clichés ring true because Chris Martin genuinely sounds like a man picking over the bones of his life, coming up with just as many reasons to be cheerful as seriously depressed. Not that
Parachutes is a depressing album--there's too much conviction to the guitars and hope in Martin's words for that. Instead it's a beautifully tender balance that comes as close to perfection as anything that's come before it.

I cannot believe all the songs on the CD are great! No filler songs, all are gems. I like this CD the best among the other Coldplay CDs. It relax me every time I listen to it. I highly recommend it for everyone!

I am a big fan of Coldplay, but I still always come back to Parachutes and am blown away at how strong each track in the album is. This music is perfect for relaxing indoors during a rainy day, cruising in the car, or just about anything else.

i really enjoy listening to this band. they did well and are extremely talented. i recommend it to ppl, but then again it really depends on ppl's taste

Parachutes is a must for any progressive and alternative rock lover. Yellow and Green EYE are my favorites. Yellow has a political reference to Tienanmen Square massacre and Green Eye is a tribute to Nathalia Imbruglia.

I borrowed this CD from the library along with a bunch of others. I wasn't too impressed until the song Trouble. Coldplay has mastered the art of subtlety. Breathy singer Chris Martin sounds like a cross between Jason Falkner and Rob Dickinson (of Catherine Wheel). The guitar atmospherics of Jon Buckland fit perfectly. Since I've bought the CD, I've listened to it many times. Each time I find another nuance (one of the few recent albums I can say that about). In an age of over-hyped, annoying music, Coldplay comes across as a refreshingly cool breeze. Get Parachutes if you want real music from real people.
